dreaming... on a wednesday morning

one hopeful wednesday morning in february 2009, i had barely woken up and the most random thought came to me ..."open a store/cafe in Paris that is like Grandma's house and serves delicious food"... i called my mum on sykpe and told her the idea -- my mum is the unfortunate bearer of all my thoughts and ideas. she is also the person that lets me dream. i put the phone down and got ready to start my mundane monotonous work day in a gray dull dead office. the office taught me a lot. it also took a lot from me. yet, all the while it let me live in Paris, for which i owe it my deepest gratitude.
in the last 6 months, i said goodbye to the office, i waitressed at Rose Bakery, i kissed the oceans in Sardinia and Portugal, i became the personal dog walker of the lovely Zeus & Hank and i quietly crept back into the loving arms of art by doing calligraphy work for weddings.
those months allowed me to breathe again after having my spirit crushed by a vision blurred with stale biscuits and computers.
that time also gave me the strength and hope to take that thought from the wednesday morning and see it as a window of opportunity.
and that's where i am now. i am hugging the challenge of starting up a business in France (bureaucrazy and all). christened BABIKA's KETTLE, i will source vintage and new clothes, shoes & accessories whilst also serving delicious food! It will be like visiting Grandma, minus the doilys, dust and diamond playing on the radio.
this blog will follow the steps of opening up a business in Paris, the many facets of a  foreigner's life in Paris and traces of all the crumbs that get lost in-between.
.... let the blogging madness begin.

spontaneous birth of a blog

i have never done this before. and i have never really considered doing this before. ever since i could put pen to paper i have always kept diaries, and so i found it hard distinguishing that line between typing up a blog and writing in a page in one of my diaries. and found that voyeurism aspect a little daunting. nevertheless, here is my blog. warm welcome. and a very happy birthday today to my brother Simon.
